Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how thriftNflip (“thriftNflip,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website at thriftnflip.com (the “Site”) and our mobile application (the “App”). We built thriftNflip to need as little of your personal information as possible — the App works without an account, a login, or an email address.
1. Information we collect
In the App. The App does not require you to create an account or provide your name, email, or password.
- Photos you scan. When you scan an item, the photo is sent to our service and to our AI provider to identify the item. Photos are used to generate your result and are not stored on our servers after processing. A copy may remain on your own device as part of your scan history.
- Scan & flip data. The item identification, category, estimated prices, scores, and any buy price you enter are saved to your device and synced to our cloud database under an anonymous identifier so your history is available across sessions.
- An anonymous identifier. On first launch we create a random anonymous ID to store your scans. It is not linked to your real-world identity.
- Subscription status. If you subscribe, our payments partner tells us whether your subscription is active. We never receive or store your payment card details — Apple handles the transaction.
- Barcode data. If you scan a barcode, the number is used to look up the product and is not retained.
On the Site. If you join the early-access waitlist, we collect the email address you provide. Like most websites, we also collect standard analytics and advertising data (such as pages visited and general device information) through the tools described below.
2. How we use information
- To identify scanned items and generate resale estimates and scores.
- To save and sync your scan history and saved flips.
- To provide, maintain, and improve the App and Site.
- To manage subscriptions and unlock paid features.
- To send you early-access and product updates if you joined the waitlist.
- To measure and improve our advertising.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Service providers we share with
We share information only with the service providers that make thriftNflip work, and only as needed to provide the service:
- Anthropic — processes scanned photos to identify items.
- eBay — we send item search terms to eBay to retrieve current market listings. We do not send your personal information to eBay.
- Supabase — stores your scan and flip history under your anonymous identifier.
- RevenueCat and Apple — process and manage subscriptions.
- Vercel — hosts our website and backend services.
- Resend — sends waitlist and product emails (Site only).
- Meta — provides advertising and conversion measurement for the Site.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
4. Camera
The App uses your device camera solely so you can scan items and barcodes. Camera access is used only while you are actively scanning; we do not access your camera in the background or browse your photo library without your action.
5. Data retention
Scan photos are not retained on our servers after processing. Your scan and flip history is retained under your anonymous identifier until you delete it in the App or request deletion. Waitlist emails are retained until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them.
6. Your choices and rights
- You can delete individual scans, saved flips, or your entire local history from within the App at any time.
- You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID settings.
- Waitlist emails include an unsubscribe option, or you can email us to be removed.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access or delete personal information. To make a request, email us at the address below.
7. Children
thriftNflip is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and limit what we collect in the first place.
9. International users
We operate from the United States. If you use thriftNflip from outside the U.S., your information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
